The Natural Dentist's Fast-Alkalizing Diet
How do you know how acid or alkaline your body fluids are? Well, it's easier to find out than you might think. By using a widely available special litmus paper that changes color, you can actually check the alkalinity/acidity of your saliva and urine in just minutes.
Once you've measured your saliva and urine, and if you find that your body fluids are too acid, you'll need to makes some dietary changes to balance your body's chemistry. The following special diet was formulated to enable your body fluids to become more alkaline in a relatively short time. Remember, with all nutritional remedies, you'll need to give this diet time to work.
Some individuals may see improvements in less than a week, while others may require two or three weeks. If you have medical problems, you should check with a physician before going on this diet to see whether any modifications are needed.
Don’t worry if you can’t strictly adhere to this diet. Just try your best. The closer you’re able to follow it, the better you will feel. As the state of your health improves, following this diet will no longer be a chore, but rather a tool forvital living.
Don’t, however, stay on this diet for more than a month. After that, begin adding other foods using this diet as a general guideline. By the way, you will notice that some of the foods in the diet are acidifying, rather than alkalinizing. That’s because a strictly alkaline diet, except for a short amount of time when you are trying to change your body chemistry, is not good for you either. To stay healthy you’ll need to eat a variety of foods.

The following list of foods will help you get the proper nutrition for the mouth and what ails it. You might notice citrus fruit on the list. Despite its acidity, citrus fruit helps reduce cavities by stimulating saliva.
Fruits and vegetables such as blueberries and broccoli, along with nuts, seeds, and certain proteins, are excellent alkalizing foods. They help the body assimilate bacteria-fighting vitamins, phytonutrients, and minerals.

80% Alkalizing Foods + 20% Acidifying Foods = 100% Slightly Alkaline Body Fluids
A mixed diet is best. Easting only alkalizing foods is not recommended for long-term good health. However, eating Alkalizing foods almost exclusively for a relatively short time can de-acidify your body fluids.
Supplements for Gum Disease
I prefer getting my vitamins and minerals from whole foods, (preferably organic) rather than supplements, because whole foods contain many factors not found in commercially produced multivitamins. But in situations where your diet has been poor, or you are trying to reverse gum disease naturally, the following supplements may help you to do so.
- Vitamin C, 2-4 g per day (taken as 500mg every few hours)
- Calcium, 800 mg (take in a formula that comes with magnesium)
- Vitamin E, 200-400 IU per day
- Zinc picolinate, 30 mg per day
- Magnesium, 600 mg per day
- Beta-carotene complex, 2500 IU per day
- Coenzyme Q10, 200 mg per day
- Vitamin B complex, 15-25 mg per day
- Multivitamin/mineral, one per day

Checking Your Saliva pH
Now let’s find out how we can check the pH of your saliva and urine to see what your acid/alkaline levels are. This is quite easy to do. We are trying to keep a careful eye on these levels to make certain that your body fluids aren’t too acidic giving a boost to harmful dental bacteria.
The pH is a scale from 1 to 14, and provides a convenient measurement of acidity/alkalinity levels. Neutral pH (neither too acidic nor too alkaline) is 7, which is the level we should be striving for.
Acid Neutral Alkaline
pH: 1-1.69 7.0 7.1-14
Acid Neutral Alkaline
pH: 1-1.69 7.0 7.1-14
To check your saliva pH, you must purchase litmus paper test strips, which are available at most drugstores. These tests strips often come with a color-coded pH chart, and by matching the colors, you’ll discover your saliva’s level of acidity. Your saliva should be neutral or very slightly acidic. If you test below 6.9, you probably have too much acidity in your saliva.
Acidity can also be tested with urine samples, but saliva is a better indicator of your acidity level. If your saliva is acidic but your urine is not, you still should consider yourself acidic.
Also test yourself after eating, when your saliva pH rise, it’s clear signal that you need to abstain from eating acidifying foods.
Always remember, your saliva or urine pH is a reflection of the foods you are putting in your body. In the absence of a medical problem, changing your diet will change your saliva or urine pH.
If you have been following this diet for a while and keep on having an acid pH (the paper is too yellow), try using cell salts. The homeopathic remedy Natrum Phosphoricum is excellent for producing alkaline shifts. Natrum Phosphoricum helps change lactic acid to carbonic acid and water, and is also necessary for dissolving uric acid in the blood.
If, on the other hand, you become too alkaline while on the Fast-Alkalizing Diet (the paper is too green), try eating some more acidifying foods.
